France

Régis Cotentin is a visual artist, video and digital animation director and installation designer. Since 2001, he has performed at over fifty festivals and contemporary art centres around the world, mainly in Europe, Asia and America.

His work is part of the ‘Films & New Media’ collection at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. For historian and professor Nicole Brénez, a specialist in avant-garde cinema, ‘as with the great contemporary artists Boltanski, Godard and Ferrara, with Régis Cotentin an image is not primarily a plastic object but a psychic constellation. The image always seems to come from very far away.’

His latest production SEA OF SAND (2024) curated by Louis Dimension Gallery can be seen at the grand SANDBOURNE hotel in Santa Monica USA , designed by the architect and designer Gulla Jónsdóttir.

The original music for his films is produced by musicians from the international electronic music scene: Scanner (UK, London), DJ Olive (USA, New York), Philip Jeck (UK, Liverpool), Pierre Bastien (France, NL, Rotterdam).

Régis Cotentin, who has a doctorate in arts and media (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3), is also head of contemporary arts at the Palais des beaux-arts in Lille, where he recently curated the critically acclaimed exhibitions EXPERIENCE GOYA (2021), LA FORÊT MAGIQUE (2022) and EXPERIENCE RAPHAËL (2024). The latter is considered by Guy Boyer of Connaissance des arts to be ‘a model of the contemporary application of digital technology to the needs of a classical exhibition’.
