Founded in 2021 by Arthur Buerms and his long-time partner Gie, The Nomadic Art Gallery is a contemporary art gallery, public art and research project currently based in Ghent, Belgium. Based on a cyclical model rooted in the notion of nomadism, the initiative takes place in two alternating phases. The first is an in situ immersion in an under-represented art scene (from a European point of view). In the chosen country, the duo carry out research that takes the form of a public art project. The second phase takes place in a transitional gallery space – a temporary location in Europe (first Leuven, now Ghent) that changes over the years and according to the artistic scenes represented. Through this gallery, the duo present their research and the emerging art scene, through a curated programme of both physical and online exhibitions. At present, the gallery aims to introduce and promote the New Zealand art scene to a European audience. Located in the heart of Ghent, the exhibitions initiate a dialogue between New Zealand artists. At the same time, their online platform, which can be viewed on their website, draws on the global nature of the digital world to connect the New Zealand art scene to a wider international audience.
