Founded in 2017 in Compiègne by Darya Brient, Galerie de l’Est was originally conceived as a platform dedicated to the contemporary art scene of Eastern Europe. Over time, the gallery expanded its program to include Western artists as well, while maintaining a curatorial focus on distinctive artistic approaches and rigorous creative practices.
With a dynamic program, the gallery organizes around six exhibitions per year, along with various off-site events. More than just an exhibition space, Galerie de l’Est serves as a place for exchange, dialogue, and reflection on major contemporary themes: sociocultural, political, and environmental issues; intergenerational relationships; memory; and explorations of material and the creative process.
The gallery also offers residency opportunities for artists without a studio in France, helping to support their integration into both the French and international art scenes.
