HUGO LARUELLE

“The Forest” series
Hugo Laruelle’s forest, the one into which he takes us (before letting go of our hands) sometimes seems to reason.
“I painted dark forests,” he said, “with jagged bark, charming birds, populated with trapped fish, black wings bursting into petals, rotting flowers, saturated perfumes, berse curtains, whirlwinds and mixed umbels…”

Worrying youth! Horrible genesis!

Freed from the prisons of lacquer, bark, lichens, paints, non-woven fabrics and mixed innards spread in moods, trap flavors and reflections.
It is not a real forest: It is found, recomposed of what inhabits it. At night.
It is a nameless forest, made of rustlings and silences: its night lives.
[…]
Enter the forest, penetrate where the gaze stops, change the perspective. Confront and look closer, let yourself: be impressed, exhilarated, guided by the details: change the focal length. […]
