Bruce discovered sculpture at a very early age with his grandfather who worked in a marble factory in Cousolre, nicknamed “the Marble Valley”. Later he created his own workshop which will lull Bruce’s entire childhood with memories of the smell of stone, its dust and unforgettable gestures. But the interest in art and the call of the stone are there: Bruce CLICQ begins to sculpt in 1994. He does not lock himself in the straitjacket of principles or in the servitudes of a market. His freedom remains complete, he creates according to his internal requirements and not according to pressures exerted from outside. His hand is the faithful servant of what the mind has conceived. The carving to the initial scheme. Stone sculpture is stillness and silence. The sensations it provides can only be perceived by a slow and patient approach. The creation is an act that gives life to the work that comes into existence, that we can see, that we can touch. Stone is the fruit of time and the sculptor works neither in haste nor in the ephemeral.
“Listen to the sounds of the marble which has its smells and its cries!”
The raw block presents a shape that often suggests a subject, says Bruce Clicq who places the volumes by taking marks on the marble to get a face out of it. Gestures are important, patience and slowness are required. The marble of Mazy is very fragile, the inclination of the tools is essential. You have to know how to listen to the sounds of the marble, which has its own smells and cries!
Since 1997, he has participated in many exhibitions and art workshops. His unique works are present in many private and public collections (France Belgium Netherlands England)
