artist/ Andréa RAVO

Italie

Andrea Mattoni, Italian artist born in 1981 in Varese (Italy), comes from a family of artists. Immersed in the world of art, he draws from a young age. In 1995, he began his adventure as a writer with his alias RAVO and his graffiti appeared on the trains. A few years later, passionate about painting, he took courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Milan (Italy) and was interested in the research of oil and acrylic on canvas, abandoning partially the use of the bomb. In 2003, he and two friends founded the «The Bag Artfactory» space in the Bovisa district of Milan. In 2017, Ravo reproduced a famous work of Caravaggio on the facade of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. Recently, as part of the 500 years of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, he made 5 large canvases at the castle of Amboise. He also collaborates with the Louvre Museum. In April 2016, the project «Recuperation of Classicism in the Contemporary» emerged, creating a meeting point between classical and contemporary art, a dialogue between past and present. When Ravo works in the public space, he pursues a tradition of copying, a widespread practice in art history. In his studio, he works with bombs, on canvas or paper, rather recreating details of great works of the past.
