BEYOND BORDERS
Beyond borders
For its 2027 edition, Lille Art Up! invites galleries to reflect on the way in which artists today go beyond established limits and invest in new creative territories.
This reflection particularly echoes the programming of the Perahia Gallery, which for many years has been bringing together artists from different backgrounds, generations and practices, creating bridges between modern art, contemporary creation and the urban scene.
For this edition, we wish to extend this approach through a selection of seven artists who, each in their own way, cross one or more borders: geographical and identity, material and technological, but also disciplinary.
Our proposal is thus directly in line with the three axes defined by Lille Art Up!
1. Questioning geographical and identity boundaries
Hom Nguyen
The exhibition opens with Hom Nguyen and the question of identity, exile, memory and transmission.
In his work, the face becomes a territory in its own right. It carries an individual history but also a collective memory, crossed by displacements, belongings and cultural heritages.
This dimension is fully in line with the desire of Lille Art Up! to highlight artists who question the notions of exile, belonging and transmission. For Hom Nguyen, the face goes beyond geographical borders to become a universal language.
2. Pushing the Hardware and Technological Frontiers
Patrick Rubinstein — Antoine Dufilho
With Patrick Rubinstein and Antoine Dufilho, we address the second dimension proposed by Lille Art Up! : that of materials, techniques and new ways of making work.
Patrick Rubinstein plays with perception and the construction of the image. His superimpositions and depth effects make the work evolve according to the viewer’s movement. The boundary between several images then becomes mobile, and perception itself participates in the artistic experience.
Antoine Dufilho works from the material and the object. He diverts familiar elements, transforms them and makes them lose their primary function to give them a new artistic existence.
