A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, Fabien Verschaere took part in a cross-residency program between Kinshasa and Nantes in 2002. During his studies, he rubbed shoulders with the Viennese actionist Otto Muehl, with whom he also produced two performances, including one entitled Le Blues de Günter Brus, which also influenced his work. Fabien Verschaere has had major solo exhibitions at the National Museum in Kinshasa in 2002, the Palais de Tokyo in 2003, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon in 2007, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Saint-Étienne in 2014, among others. and more recently at the CCCOD in Tours in 2019-2020 (La géographie du totem).
