Born in 1957 in Dordrecht, Netherlands, he is an official painter of the French Navy.
He was born on a barge at the confluence of the Waal, Meuse, and Merwede rivers. He initially worked as a barge craftsman before settling in France in 1982. He then worked in the Champagne vineyards, became a trainer and training coordinator in the Paris region, and later a drawing teacher in the Limousin. Alongside his work, he was a set designer and painter.
In 1997, he opened his Atelier-Galerie in Saint-Paul-de-Vence and has since made a living from his painting.
In 1999, he founded the Ailleurs group with painters Bernard Delheure, Pierre Fonferier, Jean-Luc Gosse, and Serge Maumelat.
In 2001, he received a bronze medal at the Salon de la Marine (Marine Exhibition), followed by a gold medal two years later for his portrait of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
In 2005, he was appointed an official painter of the navy.
In 2024, he was appointed a knight of maritim merit.
