France

Born in 1975, Valem discovered sculpture as a model during her studies. After graduating in engineering in 1999, she went on to become a teacher-researcher, but has remained faithful to sculpture, giving it priority for the last ten years. Valem works with superimposed pellets and is fascinated by modelling. Finishes vary according to the subjects studied. In 2016, she chose to be represented and supported primarily by Galerie Bénédicte Giniaux in Bergerac, Dordogne.
Valem searches for postures and attitudes that she interprets in the fidelity of each species. Her work is committed, lively, purposeful and highly expressive. Her memories of Senegal, presented in the “Teranga” collection, far from being “ethnic” art, are an ode to the generosity and luminous beauty of the people she met there: a tribute to women and children’s view of the world. Deeply committed to social-ecological issues, the representation of the living in her artistic expression has taken on a more assertive meaning. Since 2022, plant life has entered her artistic creation, hybridizing with human and animal representations.
