For Sebastiaan Spit, clouds are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Since 1995, he has mainly painted skies and clouds. Sebastiaan Spit’s paintings and gouaches resemble a sample chart of light. The colossal cloud formations vary within the spectrum of sunlight, from the warm and exuberant colours of summer to the sombre autumn tones and cool shades of winter. Only the field of vision, the time of day and the seasons of the year give rise to the variations of light and dark. This results in beautiful aerial spectacles. For this exhibition, a selection has been made from recent work depicting the skies above the coastal environment of The Hague, where Sebastiaan Spit lives and works.
