Afrique du Sud

Gavin Rain (°1971) is a South African artist who has discovered his own neo-pointillist style. Up close, Rain’s paintings are made up of small concentric dots, ending in a pointed tip and painted with different colours of acrylic paint. The viewer’s eye combines these colours to form a single image. The subject of the painting is only revealed once the viewer has taken a step back. The further away the viewer is, the clearer the portrait becomes.
