France

Philippe Viejo (born in 1967) is a French artist whose talent for drawing developed clandestinely during his childhood. A one-year sailing trip to the West Indies (1986) nurtured his future art of the sensitive portrait. After winning the Ingres Prize (1987) and living in Martinique, he led a nomadic life with his family. After a 15-year hiatus, encouraged by his family, he returned to painting, receiving a Special Prize for Abstract Creation at ARTOULOUSE (2015). In 2017, an earthquake in Mexico triggered a revelation: drawing small houses became the basis of his unique 5-step technique (including metal base, portrait painted from memory, names of cities, integrated mirrors, and “Éclats de Vie” resin). Today, his work, fueled by 30 years of travel, is an exploration of the human soul and a testament to the transformation of his initial guilt into innovative creative power.
