Elia Pagliarino Studied visual and applied arts in Toulouse.
Graphic designer and scenographer (paints in parallel with her profession)
Since 2014, full-time artistic activity.
Born at the crossroads of Catalan and Italian ancestors, Elia Pagliarino shares her childhood with the disabled residents of the institution where her parents work. It was certainly in this environment, where the irrational easily invites the imaginary, that she built the foundation for her reflections on appearances, notions of norms and identity.
And as if it were obvious, after an initial professional career as an art director in advertising, then a set designer, in 2014 she decided to devote herself entirely to her artistic research activity.
Primarily a painter and draughtswoman, her singular training frees her from conventional subjects, techniques and media to experiment with other modes of expression:
– research as support (historical, ethnographic and naturalistic research),
– materials as sensitive transmitters (earth and wood),
– detour for lightness and side-stepping.
In 2015, faced with the accelerating extinction of many species, she began to build a utopian anthropological collection: Les Espèces en Cours d’Apparition.
In 2016, she began compiling chronicles of lives from around the world.

How, then, to convey the variety and richness of all these human adventures? Elia imagined a clay belly, a sort of bottle in the sea, which would preserve on a roll of paper the stories of these mostly unknown men and women.
Today, there are over 160 Balises, ceramic sculptures that bear witness to and pass on the stories of these people.
