Contemporary art and its artists
Contemporary art refers to all works of art created since 1945 to the present day. The works of contemporary art include all the works created during this period, regardless of their style, discipline or artistic movement. We can therefore find sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, performances, installations, videos…
Beyond the chronological criterion, the contemporary artists are also characterized by their will to break with the canons of the classic and figurative art. Alongside them, the forms of art are diversifying and sometimes even leave the institutions as in the case of Street-Art, performative art or conceptual art. New forms are also created with the new technologies like video art or digital art.
The great difference between modern art and contemporary art is that contemporary artists give more importance to the creative idea than to the medium used.
Among the great currents of contemporary art, we find for example surrealism, cubism, minimalist art, pop art, street art, ... and artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Marcel Duchamp, Jackson Pollock, Banksy, Niki de Saint Phalle, Murakamin Jeff Koons, and many others..
Lille Art Up! honors contemporary artists
The Lille Art Up! contemporary art fair honors contemporary artists by offering galleries that represent them a true art event where their works are highlighted. All contemporary artists, whatever their discipline or trend, have their place in the fair and thus benefit from a singular visibility for their work.
Lille Art Up! also allows young artists to present their works during the fair thanks to exhibition spaces dedicated to them. The Lille Art Fair wishes to offer young talents the opportunity to be discovered by the general public and by the participating gallery owners.
