Oscillating between figuration and abstraction, renewing the genre of animal sculpture, he discovered sculpture at the age of 30.
Self-taught, he does not define himself as an animal sculptor: it was sculpture that made him interested in animals, not the other way round.
Jacques Owczarek favours purity of form, synthesising it in an assertive, highly personal style. The artist allows himself to be guided by his intuitions, creating animals with dynamic, geometric lines that give an impression of movement to static matter.
