New Jersey-based artist Erik Minter makes paintings that connect abstraction with surrealist figuration. With a long career in commercial design, it was natural for him to draw and paint digitally from the start, manipulating photographs of his own physical paint samples into his digital originals where colors push to saturation.
Today, Minter returns to painting and the physical surface that allows him to express emotion and what interests him most in life. It’s more immediate, and the results are full of surprise. I treat my work as if I were building a storyboard, channeling metaphysics through past, present and future experiences.
