Éric Madeleine, known as Made in Eric, was born in 1968. He was a resident at the Villa Medici (French Academy in Rome) around 1999–2000. At least four of his works are part of the Centre Pompidou’s collections. He has presented his work in exhibitions and lectures, notably during the “In Vivo 2017” event at the Centre Pompidou, where he discussed the different phases and ambitions of his artistic practice.
After a period focused on the “body-object” and performance, Éric Madeleine expanded his work to more diverse forms—drawings, photographs, videos—while continuing to explore questions related to the body, the image, the viewer, and context. His work remains provocative, thoughtful, and socially engaged, rejecting easy commercialization or consensual art—making him a singular and essential figure in contemporary French art.
