France
Born in Paris in 1958, Christophe Loyer attended the Accademia di Belli Arte in Carrara from 1977 to 1979, then lived in Italy until 1998. He has developed his work along several axes, multiplying the recurring themes of the visible and the invisible, real space and inner space, the perceived and the thought. His work has evolved to include literature, pure light, video and performance, as well as collaborations in the fields of choreography, music and theatre. Since 2008 he has been returning to the monumental dimension, in particular direct-cut stone.
The gallery showcases mainly suspended sculptures from a group called ‘Cirque Philosophique’. Christophe Loyer explains that his sculptures are not mobile; on the contrary, his figures tend towards immobility, in the present moment, like a snapshot that opens up a part of the dream to those who pass by and linger. Some of the figures are enlarged in folded steel with a patina.
