Winner of the Prix Objectif Femmes 2018, Laetitia Lesaffre is a lacquer painter and photographer. She lives and works in Paris.
The world Laetitia Lesaffre takes us into is one of appearances, reflections and symbols.
She works with the mirror, a symbol of the purity of the soul in Japan, and invites us to introspect. She uses her art to present a new interpretation of her subjects, with no narrative intent.
Her photos are like little pieces of personalities that she captures in the light and opacity of the mirror, all set against a captivating black background.
Bodies appear in all their splendor, but the subject’s intimacy is preserved by the blurred grain that makes the photos enigmatic.
Her aim is to capture the very essence of the subjects in her work, but the lacquer deliberately alters the reflection, exposing and capturing that part of the shadow that is specific to each of us, revealing our part of the mystery.
