Graduate of the École Nationale des Beaux Arts in Lyon, followed by a Master’s degree in Cultural Projects in Public Spaces at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Aurélie Le Maître trained in design and develops work around urban space and its transformations. Her installations reveal explorations of different territories.
Aurélie Le Maître’s creative research takes place in the margins of maps, in the folds of landscapes, where lifelines intersect with memory lines.
She is interested in the visible or buried traces of land use: past uses, successive transformations, slow or sudden changes that shape space and redefine its contours. Each territory bears the marks of human decisions, everyday actions, political or economic upheavals, and it is within this richness that she seeks to inscribe her work.
She considers the landscape to be a living archive, a palimpsest where individual and collective memories coexist. By mapping these lifelines, whether they be roads, rivers, borders or scars, she attempts to reveal buried narratives, the tensions between what was and what is to come. Her approach is sensitive, almost archaeological: it involves probing the interstices, the blurred areas between the visible and the invisible, between the place as it is and the place as it is experienced.
