Clothilde Lasserre invites us to discover her vision of human relationships. Ties are forged, encounters materialize and give us faith in others. Oscillating between figuration and abstraction, her compositions perfectly embody the tug-of-war between multitude and unity. She expresses the delicate balance between the need to preserve our individuality and our need for contact with others.
Between painting and porcelain, the representation of men and women seen from above allows us to gain perspective, to perceive human relationships and our relationship to the earth. The individual seems drowned in the multitude represented in her oils on canvas, but this is not the case. Her sculptures tell us stories, as we come and go, more or less aware of our relationship with others and the “nature” of the ground on which we live. Trees and their roots symbolize the connection to nature, growth, stability, rootedness in a specific place or culture. The cycle of life comes alive before our very eyes!
