artist/ Lantsev

Russie

Painter Alexei Lantsev works across a broad range of subjects, pushing the boundaries of abstract and semi-abstract painting. Born in 1970 in Krasnodar, he has held more than 20 solo exhibitions in Russia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Hong Kong.

“To paint, one must close one’s eyes and sing,” Picasso once said. When Alexei Lantsev paints, it seems he not only sings, but also performs a true dance with the brush, surrendering to an inner impulse that drives him from within. His compositions are essentially built from the combination of a graceful line and resonant patches of color, intuitively scattered across the surface of the sheet.

The leitmotif of Alexei Lantsev’s work is the constant search for a balance between logic and emotion, whether in abstraction, landscape, or figurative art.

Echoing the distant song of Matisse, the melody of Lantsev’s painting speaks unmistakably of joie de vivre. Harmonious compositions with contrasting colors invite a silent attempt to listen to one’s own mysterious inner symphony, to find that zone where words end and music begins.

His works are included in the collections of the Novosibirsk State Art Museum, the Abramtsevo Museum, the Belgorod Museum of Fine Arts, Wolfson College (Cambridge), the National Bank of Iceland, Raiffeisen Bank, Clifford Chance, Deutsche Bank, and Standard & Poor’s.
