Born in Brussels on 21 June 1973, Valou Kervyn discovered her passion for drawing and painting at a workshop she had attended every week since the age of 10.
After studying art, she went on to study graphic design at the Ecole de Recherche Graphique (ERG) and Ecole du 75 (Brussels), followed by evening classes in illustration with Alain Goffin.
Attracted by shapes and textures, she is curious to work with different ‘objects’ and ‘materials’…
The use of pallets, cardboard, wire, sand and texture paste is at the heart of her creative process.
Each material is carefully chosen for its ability to vibrate and interact with the colours.
She is fascinated and attracted by the way colours can be layered, creating unique and dynamic interactions.
Emotions, too, are layered… Expressive by nature, coupled with a strong sensitivity, she projects the feelings of the moment mixed with the emotions felt during the construction and organisation of the canvas.
It’s magical when ideas and feelings become matter, when sand has to be added to the paint to accentuate the movement, when palettes and cardboard boxes filled with colours freely transcribe what has been imagined.
Sometimes it’s explosive, sometimes more sedate …. Her techniques vary according to her emotions, but always in colour…
