Hubert Jouzeau has set up his workshop in the Villa du Lavoir in Paris, an artisanal town rehabilitated for creative industries and crafts where he surrounds himself with his material: pictorial texture. A means of expression, a way out, this hybrid material invites the senses to spiritual jubilation.
Although he sometimes also works with silver, it is through the handling of gold, gold and its pigments that Hubert Jouzeau best expresses his sensitivity. From one painting to another, he plays on material effects using different types of brushes, for more or less smooth or textured results. The color gradients, from pale gold to rich gold, recall twilight landscapes and ambiances, as if punctuated by the colorful nuances of a sunset.
To create his palm tree motifs, Hubert transposes with Posca (very deep black paint marker), freehand, the trees found in photos during his research. He then arranges his composition, sometimes very minimalist with one or two palm trees, other times more extensive or embellished with architectural elements, particularly in his latest series made with oil paint. Still other times, a grid or horizontal lines fragment the space. His work evolves according to his desires and the landscapes, always drawn from his imagination, constantly surprise us.
