Manuel Fernandez, known as KiKo, is a self-taught French artist born in 1985 in Martigues. His native Provence is inseparable from his work. Inspired by Mediterranean colors such as “burning orange,” he takes us to the heart of his youth. Childhood is a dominant subject in the work of “KiKo,” a symbolic nickname he retained from his childhood. His depiction of early life conveys innocence, melancholy, carefreeness, and youthful memories of a vanished past. This theme captivates and fascinates him. Awakening the child in each of us is the desired effect in each of his paintings. For KiKo, art must remain a child’s drawing; in its creation to its understanding. The Teddy Bear, an object of comfort, is rooted in this desire. Toys presage our imaginary escapes, our dreams, our doubts, and our most intimate secrets
