artist/ DEWAELE

FRANCE

Emilie Dewaele was born in northern France in 1982. A lawyer since 2009, this artist has always been passionate about creation. “Lawyer by day, painter by night,” she likes to say. Her paintings and drawings are marked by the power of black and the depth of white. Her works, full of nuance, are always in black and white, with an orange dot as her signature. The artist seeks to explore the limits of the world’s dichotomy, while allowing for free interpretation. Black or white, or perhaps black and white… White would not exist without black. She draws her inspiration from her legal battles, where her watchword is “Freedom.” Since 2021, she has shared her life. In Lille, she practices law. In the Creuse region, she has set up her canvases in her new studio. She has also developed the technique of felted wool, giving her works an added softness. Going beyond traditional tools like brushes and pencils, the artist structures wool and natural fiber threads.

By sculpting matter, his art is evolving towards a creative renewal.
