Robert Delaunay (1885-1941) was a French painter, pioneer of abstraction and founder of Orphic Cubism (or Orphism), a movement that blended bright colors and geometric shapes to create a sense of movement and light. Influenced by Cubism and Fauvism, he quickly moved away from figuration to explore color contrasts and visual dynamics.
His most famous works include the “Formes Circulaires” series, “Les Fenêtres”, and “La Tour Eiffel”, in which he plays with the fragmentation and simultaneity of colors. With his wife, Sonia Delaunay, he developed an integrated artistic approach that extended to fashion, design and decoration. His work had a profound influence on 20th-century abstract art and design.
