Coming from a family of sailors, Didier de Radiguès has a keen sense of observation that instilled in him a strong desire and curiosity to explore various fields, always with a unique perspective. After spending his childhood on the water and being involved in numerous competitions, he built his sports career in motor racing.
Driven by his passion for the sea, Didier de Radiguès later developed an interest in artistic photography. He started his photographic career in New York and quickly gained recognition in Singapore, Hong Kong, Paris, and Brussels.
His photography style is characterized by its precision, elegance, and luminosity. It is as if he aims to guide the viewer not towards the finish line, but towards new shores that captivate his imagination. Over the years, Didier de Radiguès has evolved his practice and developed a unique technique that offers multiple interpretations and readings.
At first glance, his photos may appear to depict a staged scene with hundreds of characters positioned in a specific location. However, the reality is much more complex. In fact, for each of his photos, Didier de Radiguès undertakes a meticulous and obsessive process of composition.
Traveling to various corners of the world, he captures aerial views of beaches and seas that will serve as his backdrop and inspiration. With his lens, Didier de Radiguès then captures the individuals who will become his subjects—men, women, children, athletes, walkers, or personalities. Each character or group is photographed individually, with the singular demand of achieving the perfect angle. The process of composition can then begin, as the artist enters the studio to position, scale, recreate shadows, and gradually assemble a body, a face, a text, or an object.
More than just a composition, the ultimate goal of the artist’s work presents us with figurative art where everything appears to be in its natural place.
