artist/ CARLITO
France
Name: Carlito Dodici
Year of birth: 1992
Place of birth: Nevers, France
Nationality: French
Training: Self-taught. Carlito has not received any formal academic training in art; he explains that painting is not something one learns, but something that “comes to life.”
He grew up in an environment steeped in art: from childhood, he was surrounded by canvases, particularly because his father painted.
In 2016, he met Pierre Soulages, an artist he deeply admires. This encounter had a profound impact on his artistic trajectory.
Subsequently, he has remained in contact with Pierre and Colette Soulages.
His work expresses a highly emotional dimension: he speaks of his painting as a reflection of a person in the process of rebuilding themselves after trauma.
His technique is varied: he uses acrylics, inks, pigments, glass, wood, and plastics. He plays with light, transparency, and unconventional materials to create rich visual effects.
He combines spontaneous gestures (“colors blend randomly”) with moments of deconstruction, seeking a “balance” through controlled processes.
For him, pain is a driving force of creation, instinct is his tool, and the unexpected is a reward.
Since 2018, he has participated in solo shows in various galleries and art fairs:
Galerie Outreloire, Nevers; Galerie La Lison, Paris; Galerie Swanney, Bordeaux;
Artfair Dijon (2021 and 2022);
Nice Art Expo (2023); Art Antibes;
Art Montpellier (2024 and 2025);
and the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, where he won the Marin Prize (2025).
