FRANCE

Sophie Blanc is a botanist gilding artist.
It is hard to believe today that Sophie Blanc began her career in electronics and computer science. At 29, she chose to leave the corporate path for the Boulle School in Paris, to learn cabinetmaking and furniture restoration, and then specialized in gilding. It was with her husband Jean Blanc that she created the workshop À l’or et du bois in 2004.
In 2016, she became a Master Artisan in the art trade, and it was that same year that a turning point occurred. Since childhood, Sophie Blanc has been a gatherer. She naturally began applying gold leaf to plants, then creating sculptures from them. This encounter between her craft and her love for nature allowed her to fully express her artistic inspirations.
In 2021, her workshop was listed in the Homo Faber Guide established by the Michelangelo Foundation, which aims to promote the refinement of craftsmanship across Europe through a selection of artisans who embody excellence in their respective fields. Noticed during the Révélations fair, Sophie Blanc was invited to the 2023 art season at the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire. Her artistic installation “Childhood Memories” achieved great success with both the public and the specialized press. Her pieces were exhibited at the Homo Faber Biennale at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice in September 2024.
