artist/ Allerton

Afrique du Sud

Samuel Allerton (°1976, Cape Town) is a South African artist. He creates sculptures in bronze, a molten metal that transforms into strength. There are two distinct styles in his work: minimalist, spiritual figurative sculptures and more aggressive, screaming sculptures. After visiting Virunga Park in the Congo, the artist was inspired by some of the last majestic mountain gorillas and he created his Soul series. In this series he incorporates humour and imagery from popular culture. The gorillas are a metaphor for the strength and fragility of nature.
