Painting has become a necessity for Julie Susset. Born in Les Sables d’Olonne, Susset has been drawing and painting since childhood. When she moved to Paris in 2011, she devoted herself entirely to painting, finding in plant representations a new lease of life. A need to escape, a need to return to simple things, counterbalancing the anxious feeling that big cities can sometimes arouse. In his “all-over” paintings, where paint gushes, flows, stretches and overflows, it’s a question of matter, color and, above all, gesture. With the great freedom afforded by the medium of paint, the artist questions fantasies, the way our imagination constructs them and sometimes becomes saturated with this idealization.
