The artist began his media career in advertising – as a creative and television producer, working for some of the UK’s and USA’s top advertising agencies, along the way winning a number of international awards in Cannes, Venice, New York and Los Angeles. Over the past thirty-five years or so he has divided his media activities between television and photojournalism. He was a foreign correspondent for NIR-TV based in Tehran, reporting extensively from around the world – the civil war in the Lebanon, the first democratic elections in Portugal, the uprising in India and assassination of Indira Gandhi, and the coronation of the cannibal ‘Emperor’ Jean-Bedel Bokassa in the Central African Empire. He then became On-Screen News/Current Affairs Reporter for Granada TV from where he went to the BBC as writer/producer and then to Channel 4 “Cutting Edge”. This resulted in him gaining unprecedented access to the French Foreign Legion, and three films for national TV were produced from this material. During this time, he has taken a special interest in documenting the world’s rituals, ceremonies and celebrations which has taken him to 70 countries across 5 continents. For his work, he has received three UNESCO awards for his reportages. He is also a Fellow of Royal Geographical Society, London. As a photo-journalist, he contributes to The Telegraph Magazine, The Sunday Telegraph Magazine, The Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Bunte, Stern, Epoca, Food and Travel and many other travel-related publications. His definitive book ‘Sacred Festivals’ was selected as Book Club Association Choice and achieved 25,000 in UK hardback sales.
