FRANCE
François Pompon (1855–1933) was a French sculptor renowned for his refined animal sculptures. After working with Auguste Rodin, he developed a distinctive artistic language based on simplified volumes and flowing lines. His celebrated Polar Bear, exhibited at the 1922 Salon d’Automne, marked a turning point in his career. By eliminating unnecessary details, Pompon captured the essence and movement of animals. His work holds an important place in the history of modern animal sculpture.
