Geke Schalkwijk studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. In his work, he explores the malleable world around us, a reality in which everything seems to be designed, improved, or transformed. His sculptures and objects hover between real and fake, between desire and estrangement. By transforming everyday materials into new, often ironic forms, he questions the value we assign to perfection, luxury, and progress. Schalkwijk’s work invites the viewer to discern what is genuine and what is merely carefully constructed appearance.
