Yumiko Sakai. Born in Tokyo, she holds a Master’s degree in Japanese painting from the Graduate School of Integrated Humanities at the University of Tsukuba and is a graduate of the Department of Art and Design at Joshibi College of Art and Design. Raised by her grandparents, she received an education steeped in traditional Japanese culture. Inspired by her garden, where flowers bloom year-round, she began painting “flower paintings.” She continues to develop her abstract series, “Flower Journey,” using Japanese painting techniques, including mineral pigments and silver leaf. Since 1998, she has held numerous solo exhibitions of the “Flower Journey” series each year, totaling 66 exhibitions to date, as well as many international exhibitions.
