Born in 1977, Thorsten Poersch is one of the young informal painters. Spontaneous and gestural, radically experimental in his use of materials, earthy in his colour compositions, delicate, meaningful – allegorical in his message and emotional in his effect. He juxtaposes the old with the new, epochs with generations.
As a child of the Ruhr region, Thorsten Poersch is influenced by the industrial landscapes of the past, the disused mines and the empty halls with their rusty steel. His paintings are compositions in earthy colours, created from natural materials such as coal, ash, sand and plaster, which lend his works a timeless and archaic aura.
His art is a feat of strength, an energy-driven process that even the viewer cannot escape.
Thorsten Poersch lives and works near Bremen.
