Frédéric Halbreich, born in Paris in 1962, is a French and Belgian painter. Self-taught, he studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Watermael-Boitsfort and attended Roger Someville’s monumental art courses. He is inspired by the abstraction of Franz Kline, Pierre Soulages and André Marfaing, but distinguishes himself by his unique use of lacquer, a technique he learned in Russia.
His work, rooted in a black universe, reveals nuanced luminosities, flirting with hues such as amber, mist, indigo and white. This contrast between matte and satin, between absorbed and released color, gives rise to new perspectives, this time more related to form and volume than to overall atmosphere.
