Nathalie Miquel was born in Paris in 1959. She now divides her time between Paris, Aubrac, and Barcelona.
It was at the Met de Penninghen school, then at the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs—from which she graduated—that she discovered nude modeling. This subject matter came naturally to her, a source of inspiration that she would continue to pursue.
It is on the Aubrac plateau in Aveyron, the land of her origins and her favorite place to create, that she draws her strength. There, in the raw and wild natural environment, her artistic energy is born.
Since 2004, she has devoted herself entirely to her passion for form, material, and the expression of the human body. Her sensitive and instinctive approach, focused on the essential, quickly won people over. In 2008, her first exhibition at the Jean-Paul Perrier Gallery in Barcelona was well received.
In her work, whether sculptural or graphic, Nathalie Miquel seeks simplicity. She captures volume and, with a single stroke, retains only its essence: movement, the fleeting vibration that suggests happiness.
She purifies, ever more, to achieve a sign that is accurate, accessible, and universal. Her sculpture is a natural extension of her drawing work. It is a slow maturation that gives birth to a suggested body, inhabited by the force of a gesture or a posture.
Powerful curves appear, while counter-curves invite us to walk around the piece, to adopt another point of view, to enter into the movement in order to grasp its meaning.
