artist/ Mederos

Born in 1992 in Santa Clara, Cuba, Cuban prodigy Darian Mederos focuses on the human face. Emotional and full of meaning, our faces encompass the vast human experience, revealing everything or nothing at all. Even in concealment, there are nuances. Our expressions transcend borders, race, and culture, acting as a common thread throughout humanity. A smile is a smile, is a smile. With the “Obscura series,” Mederos creates something new, a photorealistic abstraction. The bubble film reflects light and distorts the underlying image; only from a distance do the works come into focus. When viewed up close, the faces dissolve into bold strokes of flesh tones and painted light. Through the “Obscura series,” the artist challenges the viewer to understand the core of human identity from a respectful distance.

Mederos spent his first two years at Leopoldo Romañach Art School and his last two years at San Alejandro in Havana. Darian Mederos currently resides and works in Nashville.
