Clément Verdière was born in 1990 in Marseille.
From an early age, his passion for art became evident. At school, he was often inattentive, already lost in his creative world, immersing himself in drawing and experimenting with various paths. His journey was marked by challenges that left some scars, yet his dreams never abandoned him. These scars ultimately helped him take the leap back to his first love, drawing, before eventually turning to painting.
A self-taught artist, Clément Verdière spends countless hours working, researching, and exploring. Painting, as an outlet, gradually became both his refuge and his challenge, growing alongside him and becoming his companion—sometimes comforting, sometimes monstrous. In 2015, his encounter with Patrick Hugues and Skunkdog was a turning point. He began working in a studio, where interactions with other artists sharpened his perspective and helped him discover his artistic identity.
The feminine image became his primary means of expression, as women represent, for him, a connection to others—or perhaps to himself. He relentlessly delves deeper into this subject, striving to reveal its essence. He aims to paint humanity in all its complexity. Composed of black and white, shadow and light, his work is infused with emotion. His scars resurface in every brushstroke. Faces and bodies bear the marks of life, distorted by the flow of water or confined behind glass. He doesn’t hesitate to confront his subjects, seeking the breath of life within them.
His practice has become increasingly meticulous. Each day, he prepares three blank sheets of paper to use as palettes, meticulously searching for the right shades for each of his works. Hyperrealism allows him to immerse himself in the canvas, pushing further and further into his craft, feeding the monster within. Clément Verdière’s paintings dominate the viewer, hold their gaze, and impose themselves through their precision and emotional resonance.
