Born in 1916 in Saint Denis (93), he spent his childhood in Carignan (54) and learned to cut stone in his father’s funeral marble business. Marcel began his artistic studies at the \u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. After returning from the war in 1940 and being demobilised, he entered the \u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There he was taught by Henri Bouchard, among others. He was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1945.
\nFascinated by animals and an admirer of the sculptor Fran\u00e7ois Pompom, Marcel Bodard spent a lot of time at the zoo and the Jardin des Plantes observing the animal world, which became the main theme of his work.
