Born in Soissons in 1970, Jean-Marc BRUNET discovered his artistic vocation at an early age. He was only 16 when he exhibited his first watercolors. In 1990, he moved to Paris, where he frequented various artists’ studios. He was influenced by post-war abstraction, which marked a first evolution in his art. A keen traveler, his work is inspired by his stays abroad, particularly in the Maghreb and Senegal, which he discovered alongside his friend the artist Ousseynou Saar. In 1995, two of his paintings were exhibited at the Mus\u00e9e d’Art Moderne in Nice. The same year, he exhibited with Jean Bazaine.
\nSettled in the Aisne since 1996, he began exploring several themes: \u201cR\u00e9servoir\u201d, which explores abstract geometry through matter; \u201cTerritoire\u201d, a series that enabled the artist to create a fresco in Seville on behalf of the European Community; \u201cLes Passeurs\u201d, a theme that marked the arrival of drawing in his work; \u201cLes Guerriers\u201d and then \u201cCitadelles\u201d completed this cycle of themes in the early 2000s.
\nHe also works on monumental sculpture and set design projects. Brunet is deepening his work around sculpture; after wood and plaster, he is renewing himself with metal and welded sheet metal.
\nHis interpretation of poems and music has led him to collaborate with such great artists as Khalil Chahine, Claude Nougaro, Aldo Romano and Charles Aznavour.Through his works, whether painted, drawn or engraved, Jean-Marc BRUNET pays homage to his poet friends. With more than 300 artists’ books and objects, the dialogue continues with Jean Orizet, Michel Butor, Jean-Marc Natel, Bernard No\u00ebl, Jean-Clarence Lambert, Yves Bonnefoy, Dominique Sampiero and Michel Ragon.
\nExploring all materials, he created 80 ceramics with Hubert Dufour.
\nIn 2023, he received an order for an etching from the Imprimerie nationale.
\nInfluenced by nature, Jean-Marc BRUNET transforms materials into shapes, shapes into spaces, words into colors, music into canvases.
