In 1922, the family moved to France, first to Nanterre and then to Paris.<\/p>\n<p>From an early age, Mario Prassinos was immersed in the Surrealist milieu. There, he met avant-garde writers and painters: Andr\u00e9 Breton, Ren\u00e9 Char, Max Ernst, Jean Arp, Marchel Duchamp.<\/p>\n<p>After a brief stint in Cl\u00e9ment Sevreau&#8217;s studio, he painted his first Surrealist canvases. He broke away from this movement to follow the path of abstract painting for a time (1947-1949), under the influence of Alberto Magnelli. <\/p>\n<p>1951 marked a turning point for Prassinos. He moved to Eygali\u00e8res, seduced by the location. Here, for the next thirty-four years, he would engage in a daily dialogue with the superb landscapes of the Alpilles. <\/p>\n<p>It was also during this period that the major series of his work took shape: \u201cles Alpilles\u201d, \u201cles Paysages grecs\u201d, \u201cles Arbres\u201d, \u201cles Bouquets\u201d, \u201cles s\u00e9ries de portraits\u201d, \u201cles Suaires\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Prassinos&#8217; entire body of work is underpinned by his distinctive style, which favors the systematic use of black and white.<\/p>\n<p>A multi-faceted artist: writer (\u201cla colline tatou\u00e9e\u201d Grasset 1983), tapestry cartonnier (over 150 cartoons created for Aubusson from 1951 to 1975), illustrator (36 etchings for Jean Paul Sartre&#8217;s \u201cle mur\u201d), engraver for the famous NRF collection, costume designer for the theater, Mario Prassinos&#8217; singular work eludes any attempt at classification, making him one of the major artists of the post-war period.<\/p>\n<p>Mario Prassinos&#8217; works have been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions and are included in public collections: Museums: National d&#8217;Art Moderne de la ville de Paris \/ Arles, Limoges, Grenoble, Marseille, S\u00e8te, Vienne, Bruxelles, London, Athens, The Hague, Lausanne, Chicago, New York &#8230;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":759,"featured_media":0,"template":"","taxo_year_participe":[136],"class_list":["post-106529","artist","type-artist","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>PRASSINOS - Lille art up!<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"PRASSINOS - Lille art up!\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"Mario Prassinos was born in Constantinople in 1916.
